In 2021, after a lot of uncertainty and confusion around schooling, Bree Schindele had a big dream to run for Lakeville School Board. Her goal was to change the conversation and influence decision making to focus more on the kids who are attending the schools. In a very competitive and saturated pool of candidates, Bree was looking to stand out to the parents who were sick of how the schools were making decisions without considering how it effected their children.
With Bree being a mother of four and understanding the struggle of finding quality education that could work for each child, creating a fun and inviting brand identity was essential to appeal to the other parents in similar situations. The logo references a classic academic iconography – the apple – but infuses it in a creative way with a stack of books that spell out the campaign's slogan of "Putting Kids First." The marketing collateral shows images of Bree with her children and family, faded into an angular, monochromatic blue background. The design stood out from many of the other nominees for school board who mostly had white signs with their names.
After discussing the goals of the campaign with Bree and her team, I created 3 unique logo variations to present that incorporated the academic imagery, as well as a unique wordmark of her name so voters would remember who to vote for. After narrowing the design down to 2 options, I created a number of mockups so that Bree could visual the final solution in the ways it would be used. Finally, I worked with vendors to create t-shirts, banners, yardsigns, and pins for the campaign to handout at parades and pop-ups.
