PROBLEM
Duluth Screen Printing Company was experiencing significant growth, attracting a steady influx of new clients daily. To ensure consistent quality across all orders, it was crucial to develop detailed mockups and proofs for each project, allowing customers to approve the final product they envisioned — which required an experienced designer to produce. Furthermore, many clients had creative ideas for apparel designs intended for events or campaigns but lacked the resources of an in-house designer to realize their concepts. This presented a challenge in meeting customer expectations while maintaining the high standards of service and product quality that the company was known for.
SOLUTION
As an intern, I was tasked with receiving the artwork and clothing specifications for each order, then creating a detailed PDF document that outlined the correct size and placement of each design for customer review and approval. To enhance accuracy, I developed a gridded template featuring a 1-inch by 1-inch square grid. This innovation ensured precision, guaranteeing that the customer's expectations matched the final product. Additionally, I collaborated with prominent local clients such as Spirit Mountain Ski Resort and Duluth Pack to design apparel that resonated with the local Duluth, Minnesota market, thereby expanding DSPC's reach and appeal.
CONTRIBUTION
From assisting with screen-printing apparel to mocking up the designs for customer review, I was involved in a number aspects of the business. The CEO discovered my skill and passion for design, and commissioned me to create a number of concepts for local brands that promoted the outdoor activities that the locals love! Additionally, I was tasked with exploring Duluth and studying the history to create unique designs that referenced the great past of the city.
